We’re baaaaaack! (And we have some news.)

We’re here, we’re here! It’s been a quiet year, especially as I wasn’t allowed to do zoomies because I’d torn the cruciate ligamentΒ in my knee… But I’m much better now, and … we have some exciting news…

Here’s a little collage showing the newest addition to our family… She is a black greyhound, called Tess, and she is 9Β½ years old. As soon as we saw a photo of her on the adoption page, we fell in love with her, and, literally days later, she came to live with us in her Forever home…

Tess has been with us for almost three weeks now, and she has settled in perfectly: we love her to pieces and hope she can enjoy a long and happy life here with us, Krissy and Solo…

The Out-takes (or, Now You See Me………)

When she was looking at another friend’s funny photos recently, Mum was reminded that for every good photo she gets of me or Krissy, there are quite a few that don’t make the cut. She thought it might be fun to post a few of them here….. πŸ™‚

Greyhounds as Pets NZ Winter Wonderland Weekend!

Last weekend our little village was host to a wonderful group of greyhounds – most of them adopted through Greyhounds as Pets NZ. Our Dad helped organize the weekend with Victoria, our GAP area co-ordinator from Hamilton. Because we live quite a long way from any of the monthly GAP get-togethers, we decided to ask whether people from other parts of the area could come up here to us for once! And boy, did they come! We even had guests from as far away as New Plymouth, which, for non-New Zealanders, is a loooong 8-hour drive away from here. πŸ™‚

Colville Farm (http://www.colvillefarmholidays.co.nz/) graciously allowed us to book up most of their accommodation, and they proved to have the perfect setting for our weekend get-together. The weather was simply glorious for mid-winter, and the sun shone down on us all weekend.

Our friends who had a long distance to travel came up on Friday evening, and everyone else arrived Saturday morning. We had a lovely bush walk in the afternoon, followed by afternoon tea, then evening food (boy, was there a lot of food!), poetry, and musical entertainment throughout the evening. Most of us hounds (20 of us! plus 1 poodle!) were so tired out we slept through most of the evening, and just let the Humans get on with it…

Sunday morning we all met up on Colville beach and went for a nice brisk walk. Then back to Colville Farm for mid-morning tea and more food, then everyone began to wend their way home…

What a wonderful time we all had! Here are some photos Mum took of the weekend…

Krissy’s at home…

Yes, she hasn’t been here a week yet, and Krissy’s certainly settled into the relaxed routine we have here. Here are a few pics my Mum’s taken this week…..

She IS sort of cute, isn't she? :-)

I taught her about beds (the Human kind), She jumps up in the mornings to say hello to Mum and Dad, then she gets straight down again, I have no problem with that – more room for me! πŸ™‚

We had a great time in the garden! We did lots of separate sniffings, then some communal sniffings, then someΒ play together – then we did a big zoomie around the house. Mum and Dad made sure to keep out of our way then! πŸ™‚

Here is Krissy!

Well, she’s here! πŸ™‚

We had a three-hour drive to a cafΓ© alongside a state highway in order to pick up my new sister, Krissy, from the GAP NZ van, which was transporting several hounds to their new homes around the island. Mum took a few photos of us at the cafΓ©, after she put warm fleeces on both of us, as it was cold, wet, and windy there!

Here are Krissy and I after we'd just met. She is a cute wee thing! :-)

Here’s me and Krissy coming back from our walk with Dad this morning… πŸ™‚

Both Mum and Dad have reported that we walk well together. Mum finds it endearing that, if I stop to sniff something, then Krissy comes to sniff the same spot with me… πŸ™‚

We’re still working on sorting out our personal space as far as the beds go, but we have no problem with sharing and swapping between our feed bowls and waterΒ bowl.

Krissy is five years old – that’s just two years older than me. She has never been a house dog, and has been inΒ kennelsΒ since she retired from racing at the end of last year. Obviously she is on a huge learning curve, with everything very new to her. She has already tackled theΒ outsideΒ open steps up to the house on her own (clever girl!) and she makes it up and down the wooden stairs inside the house with lots of help from Mum and Dad. I also help, too, by running up and down the stairs beside her, to show her how it’s done.

Mum says she is a quick learner – like me! – and she is getting used to toileting arrangements. Even though she has never been house-trained, she was good as gold through the night, and I showed her the ropes as far as morning toileting goes. I’m very happy to help my new sister! πŸ™‚

This morning, Krissy picked up one of my soft toys, and we had a brief game of tug with it. It was great fun, and we made Mum and Dad smile! Of course – typical! – Mum didn’t have theΒ cameraΒ handy when we were playing!
