Here is Krissy!

Well, she’s here! 🙂

We had a three-hour drive to a café alongside a state highway in order to pick up my new sister, Krissy, from the GAP NZ van, which was transporting several hounds to their new homes around the island. Mum took a few photos of us at the café, after she put warm fleeces on both of us, as it was cold, wet, and windy there!

Here are Krissy and I after we'd just met. She is a cute wee thing! :-)

Krissy is wearing one of my coats, which is a bit big on her. Mum’s going to make her one that fits her better! 🙂

Whole Dad's waiting for his coffee, we have a peek round the corner to see what's happening there... :-)

After the long drive home, Mum and Dad let me show Krissy round the garden. I think she liked it! 🙂

C'mon, Krissy - there's lots to explore! :-)

Here's me and Krissy coming back from our walk with Dad this morning... :-)

Here’s me and Krissy coming back from our walk with Dad this morning… 🙂

Both Mum and Dad have reported that we walk well together. Mum finds it endearing that, if I stop to sniff something, then Krissy comes to sniff the same spot with me… 🙂

We’re still working on sorting out our personal space as far as the beds go, but we have no problem with sharing and swapping between our feed bowls and water bowl.

Krissy is five years old – that’s just two years older than me. She has never been a house dog, and has been in kennels since she retired from racing at the end of last year. Obviously she is on a huge learning curve, with everything very new to her. She has already tackled the outside open steps up to the house on her own (clever girl!) and she makes it up and down the wooden stairs inside the house with lots of help from Mum and Dad. I also help, too, by running up and down the stairs beside her, to show her how it’s done.

Mum says she is a quick learner – like me! – and she is getting used to toileting arrangements. Even though she has never been house-trained, she was good as gold through the night, and I showed her the ropes as far as morning toileting goes. I’m very happy to help my new sister! 🙂

This morning, Krissy picked up one of my soft toys, and we had a brief game of tug with it. It was great fun, and we made Mum and Dad smile! Of course – typical! – Mum didn’t have the camera handy when we were playing!

Keeping an ear open... :-)

As you can see, I'm keeping an eye on Krissy, too! :-)

  5. Lovely update – Krissy looks so happy to have a forever home with a loving family and having you to spend her days hanging out with! My George and Mynx are such a happy pair and each loved so much for their own unique personalities – I’m so glad I got a second greyhound.

  6. Great news Krissy, so happy that you have found such a great place to land, and Solo is a super little bro to help you. I’m really pleased you chose to take her from us here down south guys and what a lovely story you tell, about Solo and about her entry into ‘home dom’ …and a lovely one too.
All the best, and keep the stories coming, they are really great. Enjoy her, she is very sweet, eh.

  7. I’m so happy for you and Krissy! Having a sibling makes life so much more fun and exciting. I’ll bet in just a couple of weeks, your family won’t be able to remember what life was like without her there!

  8. Well done at being such a good brother! I really envy you. You are going to have a great life together. Give Krissy a kiss from Cousin Dec! Xxx

  9. I get the impression that you’re going to be the best of pals and that Krissy will settle in well. I hope things continue to go well.

  10. Oh how wonderful. Krissy is gorgeous and it’s so lovely to see that you two are getting on so well together, so quickly. Love those fleeces by the way. Yippee, now you have a partner in crime to scream around with. Just awesome!

  11. Solo, you must share your secret of how you convinced your dad to let you get another sibling with Heather and Mr. K. We’ve been trying to convince him to let us take in a third with no success! So glad you have a pal now. Looking forward to hearing about your adventures with her. Much love, The Scottie Mom.

    • Hello, ScottieMom! Well, my Mum says the secret is………patience! It took my Mum 16 months to persuade my Dad that a brother or sister would be good company for me. Plus, she kept sending him links to photos of other greyhounds who were waiting for homes. 🙂

      Good luck!

WOOFS and SNUGGLES from Solo and Krissy 🙂

    • Also, Scottimom, they both plied me continuously with wine and then held my hand to sign the papers…
